Weekly Salawat: Ya Haqq

We continue our journey through Sayyidī Ḥabīb `Umar’s collection of prayers using Allah’s beautiful names. In this collection, Ḥabīb `Umar calls upon Allah by His beautiful names one by one and then asks Him to bestow prayers upon His Beloved by those names. Finally, he asks Allah for a portion of those attributes which belong to Allah and which He has bestowed upon His Messenger ﷺ. He thus teaches us about the attributes of Allah and His Messenger ﷺ and teaches us how to seek a portion of those attributes.

Allāhumma yā Allāhu yā Ḥaqqu ṣalli `alā `abdika wa ḥabībika sayyidinā Muḥammad an-Nabī al-ḥaqq wa `alā ālihi wa ṣaḥbihi wa sallim taslīman wa ḥaqqiqnī bi haqqa’iqi’l-ḥaqqi taḥqīqā

O Allah, O Truth, bestow abundant prayers and peace upon Your slave and beloved, our Master Muḥammad, the true Prophet, and upon his Family and Companions, and allow me to have absolute realisation of all realities.

Weekly Salawat: Ya Shahid

On the day on which we commemorate the martyrdom and sacrifice of his father, Sayyidi Habib Umar (may Allah preserve him and benefit us by him) teaches us to ask for martyrdom and witnessing of Allah.

Allāhumma yā Allāhu yā Shahīd ṣalli `alā `abdika wa ḥabībika sayyidinā Muḥammad an-Nabī al-shahīd wa `alā ālihi wa ṣaḥbihi wa sallim taslīman w’arzuqnī bihi kamāl ashuhūd wa tawaffanī shahīdan wa ashhidnī bihi `ajā’iba wāsi`āti karamik w’anṣurnī bihi f’il-ḥayāti’ddunyā wa yawma yaqūmu’l-ashhād

O Allāh, O Absolute Witness, bestow abundant prayers and peace upon Your slave and beloved, our Master Muḥammad, the Prophet, the Witness and upon his Family and Companions, and by him bless me with complete witnessing of You, allow me to die as a martyr, let me witness the amazing manifestations of Your immense generosity and by him give me support in this life and on the Day on which the witnesses stand up (to bear witness).

On Increasing in Reliance Upon Allah

Answered by Sayyidi Habib Umar bin Hafiz (may Allah protect him and benefit us by him)

What can we read to increase in reliance upon Allah (tawakkul)?

Read the following seven times in the morning and evening:

Hasbiy’Allahu la ilaha illa huwa `alayhi tawakkaltu wa huwa rabbu’l-`arshi’l-`azim

Allah is sufficient for me; there is no deity save He. On Him do I rely; He is the Lord of the Awesome Throne

Also repeat the following in abundance:

Hasbunallahu wa n`am al-wakil

Allah is enough for us and He is the best One in whom we place our trust.[1]

Rabbana `alayka tawakkalna wa ilayka anabna wa ilayka al-masir

Our Lord, in You we put our trust, to You we turn in repentance and to You is the final end.

The following will also be of assistance: remembering Allah in abundance with presence of heart, bestowing abundant prayers upon Prophet ﷺ reading the books of the pious and reflecting on the stories contained in the Qur’an.

[1] Sayyidi Habib Umar mentions in Khulasat al-Madad that this should be read 70 times in the morning and evening

On Balancing the Qur’an and Adhkar

Answered by Sayyidi Habib Umar bin Hafiz (may Allah protect him and benefit us by him)

What do I do if I do not have enough time to recite the Qur’an, read my adhkar and perform other acts of worship?

The general rule is that you try to combine all these acts of worship and have a specific time for everything. However, if there is not enough time for everything, precedence should be given to reciting the Qur’an as this is one of the greatest adkhar. But bear in mind that one of the Qur’an’s injunctions is to engage in dhikr. Engaging in dhikr is thus acting upon the Qur’an. You should not allow the Devil to trick you into completely leaving the adhkar because he may then trick you into leaving the Qur’an too.

On Forgetting the Number of Adhkar you have Recited

Answered by Sayyidi Habib Umar bin Hafiz (may Allah protect him and benefit us by him)

What do you do if you have a certain number of adhkar to read and you forget the number that you have read?

You should estimate the number you are certain you have read. If you are unsure whether you read 3,000 or 4,000 for example, you should always go with the lesser amount.

Allāhumma yā Allāhu yā Bā`ithu ṣalli `alā `abdika wa ḥabībika sayyidinā Muḥammad an-Nabī al-mab`ūthi minka birraḥmati wa `alā ālihi wa ṣaḥbihi wa sallim taslīman w’aj`alnī lahu yawma’il-ba`thi rafīqā.

O Allāh, O Dispatcher, bestow abundant prayers and peace upon Your slave and beloved, our Master Muḥammad, the Prophet who was dispatched by You with mercy and upon his Family and Companions, and make me his companion on the Day of Resurrection.

Weekly Salawat: Ya Majid

Sayyidi Habib Umar (may Allah preserve him and benefit us by him) teaches us that true glory is in attaining two things: truly realising Allah’s oneness and absolute servitude to Him.

Allāhumma yā Allāhu yā Majīdu ṣalli `alā `abdika wa ḥabībika sayyidinā Muḥammad an-Nabī al-Majīd wa `alā ālihi wa ṣaḥbihi wa sallim taslīman wa’ja`l lī bi ḥaqīqati’ttawḥīdi wa taḥqīqi’l-`ubūdiyyati’l-maḥḍati’l-khāliṣati laka majdan akīdā

O Allāh, O Glorious One, bestow abundant prayers and peace upon Your slave and beloved, our Master Muḥammad, the glorious Prophet and upon his Family and Companions, and bestow great glory upon me by allowing me to realize the reality of Your oneness and to attain pure and absolute servitude to You.
