On Maintaining Awrad After Giving Birth

Answered by Sayyidi Habib Umar bin Hafiz (may Allah protect him and benefit us by him)

After giving birth I have not been able to be consistent in my awrad and other acts of worship. What can I do to maintain my spiritual progress?

You should realise that raising your children is a type of worship so you should make a good intention in raising them and intend to follow the Prophet in doing so.

You should take a moderate path – not neglecting the awrad completely and not trying to do too much. Rather you should do that which is easy for you to maintain. You will still be rewarded for that which you are unable to do.

On Teaching Our Children to Love the Prophet ﷺ

Answered by Sayyidi Habib Umar bin Hafiz (may Allah protect him and benefit us by him)

How do we teach our children to love the Prophet ?

We should teach them about his life and tell them stories about him. We should teach them about his greatness in Allah’s sight and teach them that he is the one who benefits Allah’s creation the most and that he is the greatest intercessor on the Day of Judgement. We must also teach them how to bestow prayers upon him.

On Using Interest Payments

Answered by Sayyidi Habib Umar bin Hafiz (may Allah protect him and benefit us by him)

What should I do with interest payments that have accumulated in my bank account?

You should give the money to the poor and needy or some public project such as repairing roads, providing medication for the sick or feeding the poor. You cannot use it yourself or consider it your property. When you give it, it cannot be considered charity but you will have the reward of preserving it and using it in a way that pleases Allah.

On Preventing Nightmares

Answered by Sayyidi Habib Umar bin Hafiz (may Allah protect him and benefit us by him)

What can we read to stop our children having nightmares?

You should teach them to read Ayat al-Kursi before they sleep if they are able to read it. If not, it should be read over them. If they are old enough, they should also read Ayat al-Kursi and Surat al-Inshirah after every prayer.

On Advising Parents or Elders

Answered by Sayyidi Habib Umar bin Hafiz (may Allah protect him and benefit us by him)

How do we give advice to parents or relatives who are older than us if they disobey Allah?

We should ask elders or people they respect to give them advice. We can also give them books or show them videos which we think may affect them. The consequences in the next life of acts of disobedience may be mentioned to them but indirectly and with the appropriate respect and courtesy.

In general we should not be overly affected by the negative things we see in them. We should focus on their positive attributes and do what we can to rectify the situation.

On Obedience to Parents

Answered by Sayyidi Habib Umar bin Hafiz (may Allah protect him and benefit us by him)

My parents have ordered me to cut ties with one of my relatives and prohibit me from practising certain elements of my religion. What should I do?

Cutting the ties of kinship is an act of disobedience and there can be no obedience to the creation if it constitutes disobedience to the Creator. Thus you cannot obey them in this or in anything which contravenes the Sacred Law. However, you can show wisdom in not openly displaying that you are going against their will and you must not be rude or aggressive towards them.
