Sayyidi Habib Umar teaches us to seek an expansion in the most precious of things: knowledge, understanding, love and benefit. This is the first of two prayers invoking Allah’s name, al-Wasi’, ‘the Vast One.’
Allāhumma yā Allāhu yā Wāsi’u ṣalli ‘alā ‘abdika wa ḥabībika sayyidinā Muḥammad an-Nabī al-wāsi’ wa ‘alā ālihi wa ṣaḥbihi wa sallim taslīman wa wassi’ lī bihi fi’l-‘ilmi wa’l-fahmi wa’l-ma’rifati wa’l-maḥabbati wa’l-mashhadi wa’l-arzāqi wa’l-intifā’ wa’nnaf’i wa hab lī min ladunka `aṭā’an wāsi’ā
O Allāh, O Vast One, bestow abundant prayers and peace upon Your slave and beloved, our Master Muḥammad, the vast Prophet and upon his Family and Companions, and by him expand my knowledge, understanding, knowledge of You, love, my witnessing, my provision and my benefitting myself and others. Bestow vast gifts upon me direct from Your presence.
This prayer is taken from Sayyidi Habib Umar bin Hafiz’s collection of prayers using Allah’s beautiful names in which he calls upon Allah by His beautiful names and then asks Him to bestow prayers upon His Beloved by those names. Finally, he asks Allah for a portion of those attributes which belong to Allah and which He has bestowed upon His Messenger ﷺ.
