Allah says to His Beloved ﷺ in Surat al-Duha: “Did He not find you in need and make you independent?”
Sayyidi Habib Umar bin Hafiz says about this: “Allah is the One who makes independent all those who realise that they are in need of Him. Due to your inward neediness, Allah made you independent of everything other than Him, for true wealth is the wealth of the soul.”
This prayer is taken from Sayyidi Habib Umar bin Hafiz’s collection of prayers using Allah’s beautiful names in which he calls upon Allah by His beautiful names and then asks Him to bestow prayers upon His Beloved by those names. Finally, he asks Allah for a portion of those attributes which belong to Allah and which He has bestowed upon His Messenger ﷺ. Here he teaches us to seek to be independent of all other than Him and to be completely content with Him.
O Allah, O Independent One, bestow abundant prayers and peace upon Your slave and beloved, our Master Muhammad, the Prophet who is independent through You and the one who is most in need of You, and upon his Family and Companions. Make me content with that which You have made lawful for me, so that I do not resort to that which You have made unlawful, make me content with obedience to You so that I do not disobey You and give me a heart that is contented.
