Receiving Divine Mercy

Sayyidi Habib Umar bin Hafiz (may Allah protect him and benefit us by him) talks about ways to  receive divine mercy.

All praise belongs to Allah Whose mercy manifests itself in this world to bring close those who were distant and to allow those who were disobedient to repent. They thus attain more gifts than they could imagine. Allah’s mercy continues to seek out those who are ready to receive it: the mercy of Allah is close to the people of excellence.[1] Continue reading Receiving Divine Mercy

Receiving Ramadan

How should we receive the month of Ramadan? Sayyidi Habib Umar bin Hafiz (may Allah protect him and benefit us by him) points us in the right direction. This is a summary of various lectures on the topic.

We are about to receive the master of all months, the best of all months, the month in which gifts constantly pour forth from the ocean of divine generosity. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ once mentioned Ramadan and said out of veneration: “Do they realise what is coming to them and what they are receiving?” The believer should reflect upon his connection with his Lord, the One who has made this month an opportunity for him to receive His gifts and His forgiveness. We should receive this month in three ways. Continue reading Receiving Ramadan

Blessed Forms of Istighfar

The following formulas have been mentioned by Sayyidi Habib Umar bin Hafiz (may Allah protect him and benefit us by him) and contain great benefit:

أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللهَ لِما يَعْلَمُهُ الله أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللهَ كَما يُحِبُّهُ الله

Astaghfirullah lima ya`lamuhu Allah, Astaghfirullah kama yuhibbuhu-llah

I seek the forgiveness of Allah for everything that He knows; I seek Allah’s forgiveness in the way that He loves. Continue reading Blessed Forms of Istighfar

What Should be Read on the Last Night of the Year?

What should be read on the last night of the year?

You should read the duas of the pious mentioned in the book ‘Kanz al-Najah wa’l-Surur,’ you should seek forgiveness from Allah (istighfar) and bestow prayers upon the Prophet ﷺ in abundance.

Habib Ali al-Habashi composed a special prayer to be recited at the end of the year. You can download the prayer with translation here.

Commemorating the Emigration of Imam al-Muhajir

In the month of Muharram, we commemorate the emigration of Imam al-Muhajir il-Allah, Ahmad bin ‘Isa, to the Hadramawt Valley.

It was on 14th Muharram that he arrived in the region and he was the first of the Prophetic Household to settle there. His progeny, later to become known as the Ba ‘Alawi, went on to spread Islam to the far corners of the earth. It has been said that the migration of the Prophet ﷺ was from Makkah to al-Madinah, and the migration of his offspring was from Iraq to Hadramawt.

The scholars of Hadramawt, at their forefront Habib Abu Bakr al-Adani al-Mashhur, commemorate this event with a series of lectures and gatherings, culminating in an annual visit.
