Post Tarawih Qasaid

The tradition after the Tarawih prayer in Tarim is to recite poetry in praise of the Prophet ﷺ . Through praising him and bestowing prayers upon him it is hoped that people’s worship is accepted, and he is at his most generous in Ramadan, as the hadith tells us. Other poems that welcome Ramadan, talk about its merits and bid farewell to it are also read throughout the month along with a selection of duas. Many of these can be found in Habib Muhammad al-Haddar’s book al-Nafahat al-Ramadaniyyah. Coffee is served to rejuvenate those present.

Every night, a section is read from three collections of poetry. Each section corresponds to a letter of the Arabic Alphabet and the verses from that section end in that letter. The collections can be downloaded here:

What are the Best Prayers Upon the Prophet ﷺ to Recite?

Answered by Sayyidi Habib Umar bin Hafiz (may Allah protect him and benefit us by him)

Every prayer contains goodness and blessings. Any prayer which is recited with love, yearning and veneration is of great benefit regardless of the form.

Priority should be given to the salawat that have been narrated in the Sunnah (such as al-Salat al-Ibrahimiyyah), then the salawat that have been narrated by the early generations or salawat that your Shaykh recommends.

The Prophetic Balance: Showing Compassion While Being Firm

Advice from Sayyidi Habib Umar bin Hafiz (may Allah protect him and benefit us by him)

“We need the Prophetic balance. We need to show our children mercy, compassion and affection. Many people are deficient in this regard. At the same time, we need to be firm and follow our guide, the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. No-one can be compared to him in the mercy and affection he showed to children generally and to al-Hasan and al-Husayn specifically. However, when al-Hasan began eating a date that had been given in zakat (and thus was unlawful for the members of the Prophet’s family to eat), the Prophet forcibly removed it from his mouth. He did not say: “He is only a young child and it is only one date”. He showed compassion while at the same time being firm.

Commemorating the Life of Sayyidatuna Fatimah al-Zahra

On 20th Jumada al-Akhirah we commemorate the life of Sayyidatuna Fatimah (peace be upon her), the day on which she was born.

Here are some episodes on her life, presented by Habib Muhammad bin Abd al-Rahman al-Saqqaf (may Allah protect him) as part of the series, “The Perfected Women.” He discusses the best women to have ever lived in this world, and shows how Muslim women of today can emulate them.

Selected Salawat: Removing Sadness

This is a prayer upon the Prophet ﷺ composed by Sayyidi Habib Umar bin Hafiz (may Allah protect him and benefit us by him)
