Ya Warith (the Inheritor)

Allah says: “then We gave the Book as inheritance to those whom We chose of Our servants.” (35:32) In this prayer, Sayyidi Habib Umar bin Hafiz (may Allah preserve him and benefit us by him), teaches us to seek our portion of that inheritance.

O Allah, the Inheritor, bestow abundant prayers and peace upon Your slave and beloved, our Master Muhammad, the Prophet, the greatest inheritor of Your mighty and noble Book, the guardian of all other books, and the greatest transmitter of its secrets, and upon his Family and Companions. Bless me with a vast portion of his inheritance.

Ya Badi` (the Wondrous)

In this prayer, Sayyidi Habib Umar bin Hafiz (may Allah preserve him and benefit us by him), calls upon Allah, the Wondrous to bestow prayers upon His Beloved, the most wondrous of His creation in every sense.

O Allah, the Wondrous, bestow abundant prayers and peace upon Your slave and beloved, our Master Muhammad, the Prophet, the most wondrous of all Your creatures from the first of them to the last – spiritually and physically, outwardly and inwardly – and upon his Family and Companions. By him bestow upon me wondrous knowledge of You and Your creation and the most splendid type of divine witnessing. By him make me completely firm in all of this.

Seal of the Messengers

As we come to the end of this hijri year, we present these salawat by Sayyidi Habib Umar bin Hafiz (may Allah preserve him and benefit us by him) upon the Seal of the Messengers and the Master of the Prophets ﷺ

O Allah, bestow abundant prayers and peace upon the one who You made the Seal of the Messengers;

O Allah, bestow abundant prayers and peace upon the one who You made the Master of the Prophets;

O Allah, bestow abundant prayers and peace upon the one who has the greatest status in Your sight in this life and on the Day of Judgement;

O Allah, bestow abundant prayers and peace upon the one who possesses the greatest intercession;

O Allah, bestow abundant prayers and peace upon the one who possesses the highest station;

O Allah, bestow abundant prayers and peace upon Your beloved, our Master Muhammad, the Chosen One and upon his Family and Companions.

Salat of Imam al-Haddad

The following prayer was composed by Imam al-Haddad

maqam-of-al-imam-al-haddad

O Allah, bestow prayers upon our Master Muhammad, on whose tongue we have been commanded to maintain the boundaries, to honour our trusts, to be content with what we possess and to patiently bear any losses we suffer.

Ya Ghani (the Independent One)

 Allah says to His Beloved in Surat al-Duha:

“Did He not find you in need and make you independent?”

Sayyidi Habib Umar bin Hafiz says about this:

Allah is the One who makes independent all those who realise that they are in need of Him. Due to your inward neediness, Allah made you independent of everything other than Him, for true wealth is the wealth of the soul.”

Here he teaches us to seek to be independent of all other than Him and to be completely content with Him.

O Allah, O Independent One, bestow abundant prayers and peace upon Your slave and beloved, our Master Muhammad, the Prophet who is independent through You and the one who is most in need of You, and upon his Family and Companions. Make me content with that which You have made lawful for me, so that I do not resort to that which You have made unlawful, make me content with obedience to You so that I do not disobey You and give me a heart that is contented.

Ya Jami` (the Uniter)

Sayyidi Habib Umar bin Hafiz teaches us to ask Allah by His name the Uniter (al-Jami`) and by His Prophet ﷺ to combine for us all good and felicity in this life and the next.

O Allah, O Uniter, bestow abundant prayers and peace upon Your slave and beloved, our Master Muhammad, the Prophet who gathered Your secrets, and upon his Family and Companions, and by him combine for me all the good and felicity of both abodes and unite my affairs and allow me to focus completely upon You.

Ya Muqsit (the Equitable)

Sayyidi Habib Umar bin Hafiz teaches us to ask Allah by His name the Equitable to bestow prayers upon His equitable Prophet   and by him to make us among those who are just and equitable, for “Allah loves those who judge with equity.” (5.42)

O Allah, O Equitable One, bestow abundant prayers and peace upon Your slave and beloved, our Master Muhammad, the equitable Prophet, and upon his Family and Companions, and by him make me equitable, just and wise.

How can I be with the Messenger ﷺ ?

Habib Ali al-Jifri (may Allah protect him and benefit us by him) gives us five ways we can be with the Messenger ﷺ

Allah points the believers to a great and noble matter: the honour of being with the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.

Allah says:

Those who obey Allah and the Messenger are with those that Allah has favoured – of the Prophets, the people of immense truthfulness, the martyrs and the pious. They are the best of company![1]

Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, and those who are with him…[2]

The Day that Allah will not permit the Prophet and those who believe with him to be humiliated. Their Light will run forward before them and by their right hands…[3]

How can someone be with the Prophet?

  1. By loving him

Our Master  ﷺ said:

“A man is with the one he loves.”[4]

  1. By bestowing abundant prayers upon him

He said ﷺ:

“The closest of people to me on the Day of Judgement will be those that bestow most prayers upon me.”[5]

  1. By showing beautiful character

Our Master  ﷺ said (May Allah make us among those people he  was referring to):

“The closest of you to me on the Day of Judgement will be those of you most beautiful in character – those who are approachable and who easily get along with others and whom others easily get along with.”[6]

  1. By following him and showing obedience to him

Allah says:

Those who obey Allah and the Messenger are with those that Allah has favoured – of the Prophets, the people of immense truthfulness, the martyrs and the pious. They are the best of company!

  1. By looking after orphans

He said ﷺ:

“I and the one who takes care of an orphan will be like these two in paradise.”  [he said ‘these two’ while joining his forefinger and middle finger].[7]

Salat for the Visit of Nabi Allah Hud

10422234_1078951142134302_3525491623367020065_n

This is a prayer composed by Habib Muhammad al-Haddar to be read by those visiting the Prophet Hud (peace be upon him).

‘O Allah, bestow prayers and peace in every instant for eternity upon our Master Muhammad and upon the Prophet of Allah, Hud, upon the family and followers of our Master Muhammad and upon the family and followers of the Prophet of Allah, Hud.’

Muhammad ﷺ: the First, the Last, the Manifest and the Hidden

Among Allah’s beautiful names are the First (al-Awwal), the Last (al-Akhir), the Manifest (al-Zahir) and the Hidden (al-Batin). Sayyidi Habib Umar bin Hafiz (may Allah protect him and benefit us by him) explains why the Prophet ﷺ  is also the First, the Last, the Manifest and the Hidden.

“Your Lord is the First, the Last, the Manifest and the Hidden. The Prophet  ﷺ is also First, the Last, the Manifest and the Hidden. On the night of the Isra’ and Mi`raj, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ  was greeted by one of the Prophets as follows: “Peace be upon you, the First One; peace be upon you, the Last One; peace be upon you the Manifest One; peace be upon you, the Hidden One.”

Allah is the First in the absolute sense, but Muhammad is the first in creation. Allah is the Last in the absolute sense, but Muhammad is the last in creation. Allah is the Manifest in the absolute sense, but Muhammad is the most manifest in creation. He is the one who said: “Adam and everyone who came after him will be under by banner on the Day of Resurrection.” Is there anyone who is more manifest than him? Allah is the Hidden in the absolute sense, which is why Abu Bakr al-Siddiq said: “No one knows Allah except Allah.” There is no one more hidden than Muhammad in creation. Only his Lord truly knows him, so he is the Hidden One ﷺ .

He attained all stations of perfection and he has no partner in them. So far is he beyond anyone resembling him.
