Mixed Emotions on Ashura

Someone who has true love experiences a variety of emotions on the Day of Ashura.

On one hand, they experience sadness at what happened to Sayyiduna al-Husayn and other members of the Prophet’s Household (peace be upon them) on that day.

On the other hand, they experience joy when they reflect upon the steadfastness of those blessed people in the defence of truth and the honour and status they gained through martyrdom. They also feel joyful when they remember the salvation of Sayyiduna Musa from Pharaoh and his forces.

There remains in such a person’s heart a deepfelt pain which is only counterbalanced by the coolness of contentment with the decree of the All-Wise, the All-Knowing.
