Reflecting Upon the Hijrah

Sayyidi Habib Umar bin Hafiz (may Allah protect him and benefit us by him) derives lessons to be learned from the Hijrah of Allah’s Messenger ﷺ . Extracts from a Friday khutbah.

Should you not reflect on why the Prophet ﷺ made the Hijrah? Why he bore those hardships? Why he was forced to migrate? He looked at the city of Makkah upon leaving it and said: “Allah knows that you are the most beloved of cities to me. Had not your people driven me out, I would not have left.” How can you live as a believer in him without realising what drove him to bear these hardships? Continue reading Reflecting Upon the Hijrah

VIDEO: Free Your Mind and Follow the Messenger ﷺ

“Only those who follow the Messenger of Allah ﷺ are truly alive and truly free. Everyone else is dead, even if they compete with each other over lethal weapons. They claim to be concerned for human rights, yet they compete over things that kill and destroy humans. Muhammad is the manifestation of human freedom.”

On Kissing the Thumbnails When the Prophet ﷺ is Mentioned During the Adhan

Answered by Sayyidi Habib Umar bin Hafiz (may Allah protect him and benefit us by him)

What is our position on kissing our thumbnails and rubbing them on our eyes when the Prophet is mentioned during the adhan?

This practice should be given its place, which is that it is the practice of many of the pious people of the Ummah. It cannot be considered an innovation or something prohibited. Likewise, it cannot be considered an obligation. We should not make an issue of these things, but rather we should focus on that which is more important and beneficial.

How can I be with the Messenger ﷺ ?

Habib Ali al-Jifri (may Allah protect him and benefit us by him) gives us five ways we can be with the Messenger ﷺ

Allah points the believers to a great and noble matter: the honour of being with the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.

Allah says:

Those who obey Allah and the Messenger are with those that Allah has favoured – of the Prophets, the people of immense truthfulness, the martyrs and the pious. They are the best of company![1] Continue reading How can I be with the Messenger ﷺ ?

Muhammad ﷺ: the First, the Last, the Manifest and the Hidden

Among Allah’s beautiful names are the First (al-Awwal), the Last (al-Akhir), the Manifest (al-Zahir) and the Hidden (al-Batin). Sayyidi Habib Umar bin Hafiz (may Allah protect him and benefit us by him) explains why the Prophet ﷺ  is also the First, the Last, the Manifest and the Hidden.

“Your Lord is the First, the Last, the Manifest and the Hidden. The Prophet  ﷺ is also First, the Last, the Manifest and the Hidden. On the night of the Isra’ and Mi`raj, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ  was greeted by one of the Prophets as follows: “Peace be upon you, the First One; peace be upon you, the Last One; peace be upon you the Manifest One; peace be upon you, the Hidden One.” Continue reading Muhammad ﷺ: the First, the Last, the Manifest and the Hidden

Seeking Relief through the Words of the Beloved  ﷺ

In times of tribulation, the pious seek relief for the Ummah through giving charity, rectifying their own spiritual states and the states of others, seeking Allah’s forgiveness and pleading with Him. They also call upon Allah by His name, al-Latif (the Gentle). They repeat “Ya Latif” 129 or 133 times a day. Continue reading Seeking Relief through the Words of the Beloved  ﷺ

Travels of the Soul

Allah created the souls of the Prophets and gave them the ability to travel such that on the night of the Isra and Mi’raj they could be present in Bayt al-Maqdis and also in the high heavens. He also created the souls of the elite of His servants who were not prophets, such as Ja’far bin Abi Talib. His soul had the ability to fly from Jordan to al-Madinah al-Munawwarah, give greetings to the Beloved ﷺ , speak to him and return in the blink of an eye. Continue reading Travels of the Soul

Being with Allah and His Messenger ﷺ

Sayyidi Habib Umar bin Hafiz (may Allah protect him and benefit us by him) reflects upon the meaning of being with Allah and His Messenger ﷺ

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “A person is with the one they love.”

You can gauge your love for Allah and His Messenger by gauging how much you are with them.

The Prophet ﷺ was in the highest state of being with his Lord. For that reason he said:

“I am nothing but a slave. I eat as a slave eats and I sit as a slave sits.” Continue reading Being with Allah and His Messenger ﷺ
