Dowra Gathering

Sayyidi Habib Umar bin Hafiz (may Allah protect him and benefit us by him) met with a number of students who have been attending this year’s Dowra from South Africa, Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand.

The students spoke of the sacrifices they had made coming to Tarim and what they had learnt in the Dowra. A student from Thailand said that all he possessed was three cows but he had sold them in order to buy a plane ticket to Yemen. A student from South Africa talked about the difficulties he had experienced on the journey to Tarim. He said that every hardship had been a means of purification and that in one of the first lessons he attended, Habib Umar explained the meaning of Allah’s saying in Surat al-Balad: We have created mankind in hardship. Salawat with Allah’s Beautiful Names: Ya Ghani (the Independent One)

Allah says to His Beloved ﷺ in Surat al-Duha: “Did He not find you in need and make you independent?”

Sayyidi Habib Umar bin Hafiz says about this: Allah is the One who makes independent all those who realise that they are in need of Him. Insights into Purification: Seeking Barakah from the Prophet’s Wudu Water

Sayyiduna Bilal would bring the Prophet ﷺ water for him to perform wudu. He would pour the water for him and collect the water that ran off his blessed body in a container. Then he would go and distribute this water to the Companions, who would almost fight to get some. Some would drink from it and others would pour it on their faces and chests. Those who did not receive any water would take some of the moisture from those who had received water. Continue reading Insights into Purification: Seeking Barakah from the Prophet’s Wudu Water

Salawat with Allah’s Beautiful Names: Ya Jami’ (the Uniter)

This prayer is taken from Sayyidi Habib Umar bin Hafiz’s collection of prayers using Allah’s beautiful names in which he calls upon Allah by His beautiful names and then asks Him to bestow prayers upon His Beloved by those names. Finally, he asks Allah for a portion of those attributes which belong to Allah and which He has bestowed upon His Messenger ﷺ. Weights and Measures

Insights from Sayyidi Habib Umar bin Hafiz (may Allah protect him and benefit us by him)

Any action which is heavy and hard upon the lower self (nafs) will be weighty when your good deeds are weighed on the Scales on the Day of Judgement. Any action which is easy for the lower self will be light upon the Scales.

When someone’s soul becomes tranquil (al-nafs al-mutma’innah), however, they no longer find any hardship or difficulty in acts of obedience. Continue reading Weights and Measures
